Building Plans and Designs-Brainstorming- Drafting-Measurements and Accuracy
The key to any project is getting it started which can’t be done without the building plans and designs. Important question need to be answered:
- how big do I want it
- where do I want it
- what should it look like
- what is the purpose of the project
this is where brainstorming comes into play. There is much to do before we can get started to have an outstanding finish. .
The best projects put together, what is the best project put together? I myself like watching the “Discovery Channel”, DIY, HGTV, How it’s made just to name a few, we learn how things are built or made and before anything was built there were some drafting-measurements.
If we look back into our history, in some situation we are lost (confused) on how some project were built in the pass, how strong and stable they were and are still today. A good example would be the pyramids built by the Egyptians many years ago and many are still standing today. Many different types of pyramids were built, the step pyramid, and the massive tombstone for deceased pharaohs.
The technology and machinery they had compared to what we have today scientist are still confused how they accomplished their tasks and with accuracy, that today with our technology and machinery we couldn’t build what they built.
The things that were built in the pass were built to last, the builders brainstormed, drafted, and measured, numerous times, in their minds and on paper, looking for satisfaction and accuracy of their project. Which I think we do the same today and always will the point is that as long as we used these steps we will always reach perfection.
We will discuss projects from the worse, to the best, to the most ingenuous, always, leads back to the plans and designs creating an outstanding build but, without plans and designs the project will not be successful.
History shows, from watching the discovery channel etc.there are projects built in the past that today we still do not know how the project is still standing today, the way it was structured without us having the plans and designs in front of us. And other projects like the pyramid we are wondering how they are built without the tools that we have in place today and there are many more I am sure.
Importance of Brainstorming your building plans and designs
It is very vital to know what you are building before you start building, brainstorming your plans and designs is the first step that will give you knowledge of how you will start.
This will help you process where you are building, the purpose of the project, What you are building, and what all material will be needed.
Before the build of any project it is a really big deal to give a lot thought into why I am building this project. It points to the quality of the project, it answers why I am building this project, the cost of the project, the location of the project, the size of the project, when it will to be done.
Brainstorming is like a doctor prepping for surgery. You learn what you need to do, it is a long process and critical. This is where one gets everything needed to do the project ( tools, people, etc.) in place in order to perform the task. This is where one learns if the project can be done or not.
In addition,: It lets you know if the project can be done now of later, it will help the project go fast, smooth, and without delays, because all of this would have been thought through already and done up front. The wrist of this project taking 6 months or a year would be minimal (not to go longer than predicted).
Things to know about the project at hand:
- How big does the project need to be
- How much will the project cost (budget the project)
- The location of the project (What has to be done for the project to go where it is needed).
- Who is going to do the project
Importance of Drafting your building plans and designs
Drafting your project is taking what we brainstormed and putting it on paper. This step is important because we must get everything we want on this project on paper. It must look on paper as you want it in reality. Our designs must be drawn to the measurement of all that is to go into the project.
Just for an example is if there is 4′ around the pool table, to the swinging pool being in a certain place to building a dream home everything must be where you want it and not just anywhere.
Your drawing of the project is very critical for the building, guesting or going by what is in one’s head and not putting the project on paper is a recipe for failure.
Benefits of the Measurements of your plans
Measurements of your plans is very important, not just in the building of the project, but in the process of all that is to go into the project. The measurement of any project like a building, the measurements should be as close to perfect as possible or within tolerance. Some projects have a tolerance of for example +-1/16 etc.on certain things.
There are other key elements that are very important and are a must in the process of measurements and they are:
- How to read a ruler
- The importance of measuring twice and cutting once
The ability to read a ruler is a must in just about every project on the plant. It can’t be made or duplicated without knowing the measurements. To get this process under one’s belt one must research the information, study the process and understand the process, on the other hand some masters the process for a career such as carpenters etc.
The objective is no different from any other objective in life. We are afraid to try anything new, too afraid we might not get it right the first time, it sounds impossible, or it’s not easy, we make excuses. Once we research it, or find someone that knows how to do it and they show us and clarify what we don’t understand and we study and learn, we find out how easy it is, that all we needed to know is how the read 1″ on a ruler now we have mastered the reading of any ruler or tape measure, in addition we learn fractions.
I went years fearing fraction, I must have told the world of my fear of fraction how hard they were to do until one day in my life I need to know fractions to get this job, which I need to take a test with fraction and couldn’t miss more than one to get the highest level position. It was a major component for this job, I was due for an interview the next day.
I loved working with my hand but I was rusty (confused) with fraction. Here I was the night before my interview, I reached how to read a rule and within 30 mins. I was reading a rule, adding, subtracting, dividing fraction like I have known them all my life. I A’s the test got the job and haven’t feared fraction since.
The importance of measuring twice and cutting once this step saves you time, money, headaches, and stress when performing a task, from start to finish. All the above happens when a person gets in a hurry, or they are under a lot of pressure to start or finish a project, this can also come from a person being over confident thinking they don’t make mistakes.
Taking time to measure twice assures you the cut you make will be accurate. This step saves your bottom line for having to buy unnecessary materials, materials that was wasted from bad cuts. Anyone that does a lot of building like carpenters, Furniture maker, not to over look the DIY people. We all take prides in our self on mastering our skills. I do not believe in the old saying of “study long you study wrong” I myself believe in you “study long you study right”.
Mastering the attention to details – Accuracy
Until a person practice or do something over and over again they will never master it. Mastering something is not just learning how to do something, it is doing something on impulse, it becomes a habit, it gets done without thinking.
When a person masters the steps of their project, job, etc this bring about the accuracy and quality of that project. They do not have to worry about if that step was skipped. All the mistakes are in the process of learning. We all have heard the old saying practice make perfect.
Improving the out look of the plans- enjoying the results
At this stage we have dotted all the I’s and cross all the T’s, making sure the project is on point from start – finish.
Learning and staying aware “on point” of the steps (techniques) discussed above and making it your goal to master these techniques, your name will always come up in the conversation when someone need information on how to do a project.
Also, when someone needs a project done. The word would definitely be out that you do not cut corners, and that perfection is in your work.
